Thomas ("Tom") Croft is Senior Counsel with the firm.
Practice Summary
Tom’s practice focuses on patent preparation and prosecution and patent counseling in the areas of computers, software, and wireless communications. During his career in patent work, which spans more than 20 years, he has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in a wide variety of electrical and mechanical technologies.
Tom also has extensive experience in patent litigation and AIA post-grant proceedings such as Inter Partes Reviews (IPRs) and Post-Grant Reviews (PGRs).
Professional Experience
Prior to joining the Firm, Tom practiced patent litigation and patent prosecution at Dunlap Bennett & Ludwig PLLC. For the ten years prior to that, he practiced patent prosecution and patent litigation support at Cooley LLP in Broomfield, Colorado. Prior to joining Cooley, Tom worked for five years as a patent agent and later as a patent attorney for Hewlett-Packard in Fort Collins, Colorado. At HP, Tom drafted and prosecuted patent applications directed to a variety of technologies, including, in particular, digital-camera user interfaces and computer workstations.
Tom’s technical education focused on computers, digital signal processing, and communications. He began his electrical engineering career as a Member of the Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories in Whippany, New Jersey doing applied research in image processing, signal intelligence, and cellular telephony. After four years at Bell Labs, Tom joined Ericsson Inc. in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina as an applied research engineer. He remained at Ericsson for ten years. During his first five years at Ericsson, he simulated digital signal processing algorithms for cellular handsets. During his last five years at Ericsson, Tom worked as a patent engineer and later as a patent agent. Tom is a named inventor on ten issued U.S. patents stemming from his work at Ericsson.
